"Syaitan Bersepuluh" by Khairul Azuwan Ishak, 2010

The visit to the National Art Gallery introduced me to many artworks that seemed strange and foreign. Amongst all masterpieces, an artwork presented in black and white by the simple usage of charcoal on paper is one that looks really familiar to me, which I can agree with and understand from the bottom of my heart and in all sincerity the message that is being sent across by the artist.

This particular piece of work illustrated the complexity of human mind as driven by a range of emotions like confusion,  frustration and helplessness that arise from the influences of people who look like they are offering positive advices but at the same time can be harboring malicious intentions to lure one into evil designs or vice verse. The facial expression of the main character characterized the powerlessness he experienced while trying to differentiate between the good and bad, right and wrong, best and worst.

Besides that, the artwork expressed a disturbed state of mind of being possessed by conflicting thoughts, which in my opinion, is very proximate to the feelings of average human being in important decision making situations where they are indecisive and are vulnerable to words of people around them.

This masterpiece manifested in its visual form, the mixed feelings or confusions that sometimes, cannot be simply or easily described in words and therefore, can be appreciated and endorsed wholeheartedly by people who can identify with it.
